I am looking at getting a decoder card, and have been reading up on them. I have been trying to decide between a DXR2, DXR3, and a H+. What would you recommend, or what do you need to know to make a recommendation?

What other cards are out there that are really good?

I would recommend the H+, because I have a DXR3 right now and the only way to get it to play DD encoded disks withouts skipping is to use the H+ software and drivers. (The H+ and DXR3 have the same chipset and are just about the same card.) The DXR2 is a little out-dated as far as picture and sound quality goes.

Hope this helps!

Oh, to answer your question on what other cards are out there:

3DFusion MPACT2 DVD at www.digitalconnection.com/mpact2.htm

This is an older card that is not really supported anymore, but has alot of great features

ATI Rage Fury Pro at www.ati.com/na/pages/products/pc/fury_pro/index.html

This is a full video card that has DVD Decoding built in.

Thanks Bigbot.

I read that the DXR2 was a really good card if you only used the tv out for dvd.

I have a voodoo 3 3000agp, it's supposed to have decoding, but I don't get very good playback.

I tried those links, couldn't find a price on the first, and the second didn't work.

Sorry about the link. It appears to work on my machine. I guess you can go to ati's website and browse around until you find it.

I tried to find a place selling the 3Dfusion, but was unsuccesful. I read in a magazine that the original company that built it went out of business and the digital connection people picked up the support for it. Maybe Ebay or Yahoo Auctions?

I will keep my eye out for it.
