A $30 price drop on the 8GB? Booo. I would have prefered $230 for 16GB.

Underwhelming so far. Apple trying it's usual bluster on the gaming market is pretty hilarious. Yeah, I'm sure Nintendo is really worried.

Rumor is some technical glitch came up late in development on the touch. They did add a camera to the nano, though.

So...is there any actual difference to the touch hardware (besides the available 64GB memory)? Is it otherwise all software changes?

The Nano looks fantastic! I love the Live Pause feature on the FM radio. I've been wanting that for years on my car radio.

Re: iphone OS 3.1, Itunes 9, new ipods

and not including a camera on the Touch is really going to make people run out and buy them. most people i see with Touch's and iphones sit on the train and listen to music and that's it. most don't use the apps while listening to the ipod app. Apple is saying buy the iphone or Nano. Maybe 3GS sales are so strong they don't see a future for the Touch?

Seems like it would be a no-brainer to me, but what do I know? The touch is a bit thinner than the iPhone, so maybe there's some issue there, but then the nano is thinner than either, so.....?

Another possibility - the touch is still selling hot enough that Apple feels they can wait to add a new hardware feature. Or they want to leave it off as a differentiator with the iPhone. Or they just didn't need my $300 this quarter. Who knows? It's Apple, so we'll hear lots of rumors and few facts.

Yeah. Apple really gave the middle finger to the iPod Touch fans.

I rarely listen to music on my iPhone. It's first and foremost an app device. Then a browsing device. Then a phone. Then a camera. Then a music player. At least around here, I'm the typical user. I see iPhone users looking at the phone and doing something (browse/app) than listening from it or talking to it (phone/music).

Get this...The 8 gig Touch has the same innards as the $229 previously sold. Only the 32 and 64 GB Touch has the enhanced graphic chip.

my guess is that they don't think enough 1st and 2nd gen owners will upgrade to make the extra expense of the camera worth it. with the Nano the price of flash fell enough that they added the extra hardware

Re: iphone OS 3.1, Itunes 9, new ipods

I like the new iTunes...seems like they put effort in to it.

Like the new Nano...trying to figure out how I can use the radio feature to record Little Steven's show on Sunday...any suggestions on that one?

Lastly, I was hoping for larger classic iPods, but I can work with a Nano that has a radio.

Re: iphone OS 3.1, Itunes 9, new ipods

I wish the TOUCH had a FM Radio Tuner.

Also, I have a Touch with firmware 3.0 that I "obtained" via a free method. Will I be able to upgrade to 3.1.1 through iTunes, or am I screwed now?

Re: iphone OS 3.1, Itunes 9, new ipods

Just checked out the 3.1 firmware...this feature looks kind of cool:

Remotely lock iPhone with a passcode via MobileMe

I am always dropping my phone in the office and I have it open on occasion. That is useful. Otherwise, everything else looks pretty good.

Got to give the Genius Mixes a try now that I have my files organized.

Re: iphone OS 3.1, Itunes 9, new ipods

Just tried to update Itunes and it states that I'm running the newest version 8.2.1. Shouldn't I just be able to go to updates and get 9.

Re: iphone OS 3.1, Itunes 9, new ipods

go to apple.com for it

I have it installed and it's definitely faster on my windows 7 laptop. nice that Apple took the opposite path of Acrobat Reader which takes longer to open than it did 15 years ago

Really like the new store interface. Still a boo for not making the interface skinnable.

Re: iphone OS 3.1, Itunes 9, new ipods

Just finished installing iTunes 9. The store interface had a nice remake. The music library page remains much the same - which is a disappointment to me. Too cluttered and too blue-gray, depressing looking.

The visualizer is nice. I don't know if it came with iTunes 9 but this is the first time I've seen it.
