Well, I keep all of my CD's in case and just store my cases. Well, the wife went through cleaning and threw away a bunch of stuff. And some of my cases/sleeves went out in the trash.

Is my Windows Me CD key printed somewhere within Windows? I am having several protection faults and want to reinstall, but now I can't.

Thanks,

C. Ryan

Use to be in the registry and under control panel-system-general tab. Not sure if they moved it in ME. If it is not there it would be easy to find one on the net.

In 95 and 98, all you have to do is right click on "My Computer" and hit properties. It lists it under "registered to". Not sure with ME, but worth a try.

Located in the registry (type 'regedit' at the run command) under the following key:

my computer\hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion

there will be an entry for 'product key'.

Find a copy of the program called "[Product Name removed]". It'll have copies of serial numbers for many programs, all in one easy-to-keep-up-with package.

Ummm.. I think he was meaning he wants his own key back so that he has the one registered to him.

Anyways,
I have win me and checked the registy key that Bollux posted. And sure enough, there was my Key.
The right click on my computer, then properties displays a product id, but I think that is the 25 character code converted into another format.

You guys are great. Thanks a lot.

Yes, I do want my own key since it is registered to me. However, if I had no other choice, I would have used a bogus one. I do not want to have to buy another one for crying out loud.

So thanks to all the responses.

Good point, I suppose, for someone who does register stuff. Myself, I never registered programs pre-net when they came with the postage-paid form, I didn't register them when they started using your modem to dial them up, and I don't register now that registration takes place over the net. I've always been of the opinion that it's nobody's business what I have on my computer, even the software developer. (I don't send in product registration cards for hardware, either, BTW).
