Hey guys,

I installed Black Ice Defender due to recomendations here for my new cable modem/2 PC network hook-up.

So far it works great except I am having problems with Napster. Most of the time, when I try and download a song it just sits at "Getting Info" for a long time.

Does anyone know if there is something I can do so Napster will work like it used to?

There should be some settings in Black Ice that control the amount of security on a program by program basis.

I don't use Black Ice, so I can't tell you exactly where to look, but you'll probably want to look for something that allows a program to act as a server.

Moving to DVD Rom and Computer Forum.

I have black ice, and on the nervous setting napster works fine. Some songs don't dl, but that happens without black ice too.

That's odd. I am only on "cautious" and it doesn't seem to want to download any songs (or let others dl).

Very strange. Is there another setting I need to activate or something?

Are you 100% sure it is Blackice? Try turning Blackice off and then using napster and see if it works.

You can punch holes in B-ice if need be, but it requires editing the firewall.ini file and Napster uses random tcp ports within a certain range (I forgot the range) and this might be tedious to enter in to the ini file.

Try it without B-ice on and see.

Jadzia, I use both and BlackICE does not seem to affect Napster. Some sources of files will stay in the "Getting Info" forever. I don't think it's a BlackICE issue.

Ok, I don't think it's Black Ice now, but rather my Cable modem router. I own a NetGear RT314.

Anyone have any idea on how I configure it properly to work with Napster?
