How Do I Restrict Certain Websites ?
 

I want to restrict specific websites from my pc that my daughter is spending way too much time on.

How do I do it in Internet Explorer and AOL ?

I tried going into Tools on IE and then Security then adding the website as a resticted site but it didn't work.

Also, is there a way to limit the time a specific user can use IE as there is in AOL ?

You could always use an alternate DNS server like OpenDNS. They let you specifically block sites by type such as adult themed, drugs, news, File sharing, social networking etc, or you can block a specific site.

I would imagine you are using a physical router/firewall at some point in your interent connection. Most of their interfaces allow for blocking of websites right at the firewall level. You go into the admin interface via Internet Explorer (usually something like 192.168.1.1) and make the changes in there.

Did you try the Content Adviser in Internet Explorer?

I just happened to get Verizon Fios a couple of weeks ago so maybe I can help you out. I would imagine they're still using the same actiontec routers so the interface should be the same. Keep in mind I don't use the blocking function but it should work once configured.

In Internet Explorer go to http://192.168.1.1 and login with admin and the password which hopefully the Verizon tech gave you when he set it up. You should get in to an interface with a menu on the top where you click "Parental Controls." THe page should look like this if we have the same interface:

Just choose the computer(s) in Step 1 and follow the rest of the instructions and it should work.

I forgot about the built in one which would probably be easier to configure. Though blocking it at the router will keep the sites out even if alternate browsers are used to try to get around the block.
