Help replacing Hard drive in my laptop....
 

Ok...need a bit of help here.

My hard drive crashed in my HP DV6000 Laptop. I went to NewEgg.com and bought this drive:

When I went to put it into my laptop I found it it didn't fit. I could have swore I chose the right one...but I guess I was wrong.

This is the harddrive that I pulled out (not my picture but the but the same type of pins):

This is the one I bought and hoped replaced it with (instead of pins they are flat...like a Gameboy/Gameboy Advance game):

What am I doing wrong here? This is the first time I've ventured into replacing a laptop hard drive so I must be doing something wrong.

I can't see the pictures well enough when I click on their links, but it appears you got a SATA drive when you needed an ATA one.

See thats what I thought as well but my hard drive I pulled out of my laptiop said SATA on it.

Yeah, those two sets of pins look kind of like a SATA layout.

What is the model of your old drive?

Ok...I'm stupid.

There is a small connector on my old hard drive. With it removed, it now looks pretty much identical (well, I don't have the new one with me at the moment though). I feel stupid :lol:

I replied to your private message this morning regarding this, but I don't see it in my "sent" folder.

Don't forget to remove the mounting bracket for the laptop from the old drive either.

I didn't get a PM from you (which is why I posted here since I was minutes away from returning to back to EggHead...phew!).

Yeah, it seems to have vanished, since it's not in my PM sent folder.

Anyway, I had found a picture of the connector, which is a proprietary part for some HP laptops:

I think you meant NewEgg, but man, that name takes me back. I remember going to the EggHead stores in the mall, back when we had an Apple IIGS. I looks like Amazon eventually bought them out :

My 320GB drive is now in my computer and working fine!

But Egghead...wow. I remember shopping at them years ago. My dad bought our Tandy computer from them.

You had the same exact problem I had. You figured it out before I read this thread.
