Laptop Shuts Off When Power Cord is Removed, But Doesn't Indicate Charge

So last night, my power cord accidentally came out of my laptop and immediately shut off. This indicated to me that it was probably not charged, but when I plugged it back in, it did not indicate that it was charging at all. Any ideas what's going on?

Use it some and then see if it needs charging. Maybe when it came unplugged a spark happened and screwed it up.

Can you see the battery status in control panel, or in the task bar?

How old is the battery/laptop? Do you use it on battery power often?

Edit:

I'm an idiot. This entire time, when I was only looking at my power cord, it was the actual battery that was partially dislodged. Thanks for the responses, though.
