What is your favorite/best movie/mpeg/video player?

For years, I've been using Windows Media Player out of sheer convenience. Quicktime will not playback my MPEG movies for whatever reason, and I want something which can speed search an MPEG file and play dependably. That's it. Just great playback (no recording, no organizing artwork...just playing MPEGs reliably.

What do you recommend? Thank you in advance for your responses.

I just downloaded KMPlayer and it seems to play whatever I throw at it.

Used to be a fan of MPC and VLC but now feel MPlayer's the best out there.

The big reason I use VLC is because the codecs are self contained, so you don't have to install any that might screw something up on your machine.

Do you have to install codecs for these other players?

This is what I use as well. Plays everything including stuff even VLC can't handle well.

GOM player will download codecs if it could not find them in your system.

Thanks for the responses.

The KMPlayer is terrific...beats the Windows Player effortlessly.

I'm going to try VLC.

Between KMPlayer and VLC, which would be the better choice for taking decent-quality screen caps? I'm looking to upgrade the crappy Nero player that came bundled with a DVD-Rom drive.

I used to use BSPlayer all the time and loved it but I recently changed computers and now it has a bunch of crappy spyware on it? What happened? I loved how the window itself was seemless and it was very easy to scroll to change the size and use the arrows to change the FFWD and change the volume.

Thanks very much for this one. I have an extensive collection of flv files that I've been using VLC for. I just downloaded KMP and I think I have a new favorite player.
