advice in buying a new pc

I have a $600 budget and need some advice in picking a new pc.I'm looking for a good desktop pc,I need a system for burning dvds, internet, some gaming. Is there a big difference between amd and intel,I've seen some low price amd quad core desktops at cc are these good or should i get a core 2 duo or quad core?

If you're going to do some gaming, which you mentioned, you should stick with the Intel chips right now. They have the lead in gaming performance. Unless you're just doing casual gaming (like internet flash-based stuff) in which case it doesn't really matter. I would recommend a quad core Intel like the Q6600, which is the sweet spot for price/performance.

Dell is still a good place to get a PC from.

I have AMD Core 2 Dual, it's good enough for many games that currently released - but not Power-hungry games.

It seems good price.

Mine - AMD Athon 64 2x Dual Core Process 4200 - 2.20 gigabyte with 2 gigabyte memory. It worked well with Command and Conquer 3 without any slow down.
