Damnit! XP just killed my computer!

*sigh* I knew getting XP was a bad idea. I finally decided to upgrade from Win 2000 to XP, so last night I loaded up the disk, and got as far as 'prepare
to install'. The system rebooted, then got into a repeating cycle
where it would get as far as the logo screen, then reboot, over and over.

I shut down and restarted, and now the thing won't boot at all! It'll power up for a few seconds, then shut down again. The power supply is only about
two months old, so I'm fairly certain thats not it.

Fortunately the laptop still works. So here it is 4:30 AM, and theres nobody around to whine at. Well, except you guys.

can't you load up a 2000 boot disc, and use a restore or something?

From what I am reading, You need XP Pro for the upgrade from Win 2000. I am assuming you have XP Home.

Also, try upgrading with only your mouse and keyboard. Disconnect everything else until XP is installed.

Hi, I'd like to report that I'm a complete ass. I woke up this afternoon to find that my roomie had the machine up and running just fine. He says all he did was simply started a new installation. I don't understand how he got that far, but hey... Only problem now is the machines being a little stubborn about installing IE7.

I probably should've tried that myself, but I seem to have some sort of mental block when it comes to my computer. If something goes bad I immediately go into a panic induced vaporlock. :P

As for still using Win2000Pro, hey it was still nice and stable, and ran all my processes just fine. Only reason I even upgraded was a friend who works at MS offered me a free copy of XP Pro.

At least it wasn't Vista.
