Reformatting A Laptop?

I'm having a lot of problems with my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop(it freezes up when opening other windows, clicking on links and just freezing up when I stopping using it for a few minutes). Since I'm not very savvy with computers I thought I would just reformat it and start all over. Well I can't figure out how ! Will this fix it? Will just putting in the operating system disc and installing it again do it? Oh BTW it has Windows XP on it

if its a dell provided system restore disk.. yep, that will wipe it and youll be good to go

if by chance its an actual OS cd.. then during the os install, youll be given a chance to format the drives, recreate partitions, etc..

so either way.. yea, you should be good to go.

just go into the bios and change boot order to boot off the cdrom.. then boot up
or i believe f12 will give you the boot order (it tells you on boot what to hit to change boot order)
