I bought the iPod 20GB from a guy at work...but the battery life lasts only 1.5 hours

and I think that stinks. Aside from breaking the guy's head, what are my alternatives to getting better battery life out of this old iPod?

Here's a site that has some methods that may restore the battery life without replacing it:

Lithium ion batteries can only be recharged so many times before losing their juice -- when you buy an old electronics item, it's a risk you take. Buy one of those widgets that'll play the iPod on your car stereo -- as long as it draws juice form the car, battery longevity isn't an issue.

try toning the battery. Let the battery naturally drain to empty, then let it recharge for 24 hours. It may last longer.

Or just get your ipod to think about baseball stats or old women naked to last longer. Works for some things.

First thing, take Ipod and put into a pillow case... Next day, find guy and mercilessly beat the shit out of him with said pillow case.

You think $100 was too much? For an item that holds 3,000+ songs? That originally went for almost two hundred and fifty dollars just a few years ago?

What would have been a fair price, then?

A new 80gb model is 250. Divide that by 4 and you get 62.50. That should be the most I would consider paying since you're getting a used model with older software. I wouldn't even consider paying that.

With 12+ hours to go, maybe. I see two on there right now that are going for over $80 with a few hours left.

Be hella careful when replacing that battery, I fried the logic board on an iPod replacing one (because I wasn't wearing one of those bracelets I guess)
But it did give me a good excuse to get a 60 gig photo (which I still use)
and my broken 30gig fetched something like $110 on ebay, who would have thought (this was like a week before the ipod video came out)

tell him its isnt working properly and that you would like to get your money back.

If he refuses - Shit in a napkin and smear it under his desk when he's not looking.
