Thunderbird: how to transfer address books?

My friends computer crashed. I have reinstalled everything on a new computer, but now I need to transfer his address books from his Thunderbird profile to the new computer.

According to some googling, this can be done by exporting as ldif files, and then importing those. However, his old computer is dead, so I can't export anything.

I believe the address books are saved in *.mab files. I found 5 files on his old computer: abook-2.mab, abook-3.mab, abook-4.mab, abook-6.mab and abook.mab

Any idea how to transfer the address books based on this scenario? Any help as usuas is greatly appreciated.
