My iPod thinks there's no music on it - What happened?

i've got a 160gb classic with about 10gb free on it.

the other day, it needed charging, so i plugged it into the computer.

itunes did not open up when i did so, and instead, vista gave me a little system tray pop-up thingy saying it was installing device drivers, and the device was ready to use.

i also got a pop-up window in vista asking me if i wanted to scan the "drive", or continue using without scanning. i chose to continue without scanning.

when i went to unplug it to use it, itunes still wouldn't recognize that my ipod was connected, but i was able to "eject" it properly in windows explorer.

i turned on my ipod to find that it thinks there's 0 songs on it. no music, no albums, no artists, no songs, etc. but when i scroll to settings, it still says there's only 9.x gb free on it.

what happened? can this be fixed without starting from scratch? i suppose it's not a huge deal to do so, but it's pretty time consuming, and i'd like to avoid it if possible.

Sounds like your Ipod Database is Corrupted.

Can you browse the files using Explorer?
And do you have all the mp3s on your pc as well as the ipod? or are they all on the ipod.
