Virtual Memory and RAM

I'm only running 512 MB or RAM right now and will be upgrading eventually. In the meantime, if I upped the virtual memory to, say, 1 GB , would that be equivilant to adding 1 GB of RAM ??

no it won't have any affect on performance...

if your existing swap file was full, windows would expand it automatically...

Before you set the virtual memory, do a defrag first. You should setup up your virtual memory to 1GB and set it as 1GB for the minimum and maximum size. You DO NOT want Windows to expand the pagefile automatically. That will slow things down even more.
