Dell 9200 Heat Problem or something else???

Hi. I bought this computer a few months ago from this thread.

http://forums.slickdeals.net/show...9&t=584681

It's working fine, but sometimes it just freezes on me. I usually like to keep it on all night. So, when I try to get on sometimes, it doesn't move. I try the number lock trick and when that doesn't respond, I know it's frozen. I'll have to reboot. There's a few times when I'll surf or play a game it'll freeze and when that happens, there's usually some noise. Like a grinding noise, something trying to move, but isn't. It's happens more when it's idle though. I checked for viruses and nothing. I think it's the heat as there doesn't seem to be too many fans in there.

I downloaded this program called Speedfan.

Here is a screenshot of it.

Well, those are in celsius so that's pretty hot. I check with a converter and 30 C is about 86 F. It will go up to about 40 C when I play a game.

I want to know if anyone know how I can install a fan in it??? My brother looked, but he said it didn't seem like it could. Are there any other options??? Thanks!

That is normal. I don't think your freezing is related to heat.

If those temperatures are accurate, then you're fine as far as heat goes. Typically, you don't need to worry about heat unless your system is hitting the 60 degree Celsius range. I'm not sure if Speedfan picks up the sensors on a Dell accurately or not, but i've used dozens of 9200's at work and haven't really seen any overheating problems.

Have you checked for basic driver updates from Dell or for your video card?

30C is a very low temperature for a CPU. The dual core CPUs are easily rated to run over twice that temperature with no problem.

Oh. Someone told me to change my power supply. Could that be it?

How do I check for basic updates? On Dell's website?

the easiest way is to enter your serive tag # here

http://support.dell.com/

update everything, BIOS and all hardware drivers

disable or uninstall any programs that launch at startup that you may not need

30 C is very cool, no worries there, I usually don't worry until I get to 70 C

You can never be 100% sure you are not infected with a Virus or a Malware

It is usually on the back of the machine, sometimes they put it on the top too - this is Dell's serial number, if you look around the machine it should not be too hard to find.

it is alpha numeric and usually 5-6 characters, the express service code is the really long one that is all numbers, it is not that one

Dell's are usually on the top of the system i think. On all our systems, it's a little grey tag and it'll be next to the big sticker with the Windows CD-Key.

Hi. I added it. Do I go to Drivers & Downloads and go through that list of stuff? Do I just do all the ones that are recommended?

I'm sorry, just want to make sure as I don't want to mess up my computer and have to reformat.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH...................it's still doing this.

It's freeze when it's idle.
There's a few times when it freezes when I'm playing a game, watching videos....when this happens there's like this noise that comes from the speakers....like a grinding nosie or something.
There's a few times it'll freeze when I'm just surfing.

This is driving me nuts. Someone said to change the power supply, but I had a hard time trying to take it out. I never upgraded, so shouldn't the power supply be ok.

What else can it be????? Please help me!!!
