Windows Media Audio/Video Problem

For some reason, after a certain amount of time, my HP starts having these problems. It skips horribly whenever I use my Media Center or my Media Player...but it also affects when I look at youtube videos...basically any video I now play on my computer. My computer is only about 2 to 2 1/2 years old, but this happened before, about four months ago. It got progressively worse until even the internet was choppy, along with my cursor. (I do see my cursor skip a bit.) I put my restoration discs in and basically got it back to the way it was when I bought it and that fixed the problem. Now it's doing it again...

I can't figure out what's wrong...it skips bad at first, then settles down and only skips every 5-10 seconds or so, but it's really noticeable. Is there any virus or anything that does this? I tried searching for one but found nothing. I thought it might be hardware failure, but the restoration cured it.

Anyone know a quick fix for these types of issues? Thanks.

Before doing anything, install and run Avast antivirus, Lavasoft Adaware, and Spybot Search & Destroy. Make sure that there is no web browser running when you run those apps. And run them repeatedly until they all report back clean. THEN take it from there.
