How do I connect two computers to file share?

Never did this before. I want to connect a laptop and a pc to share files.

I can do this either wirelessly or hardwire.

Which would be best, and how do I then share and transfer files between the two? One important desire is to be able to use one unit to open, change and save files on the other.

FYI, both units are using XP and my wireless is passworded. If done wireless I of course want to keep the file sharing just between these two units.

Thanks

I figured it was probably something easy like that.

You are referring to the network wizard setup, correct and, how, if at all, will this affect the "local area network" that I have for the internet? Thanks.

If they are both on your network already you can just share a folder.

they did not show on the network, just a wireless connection that does not show the laptop so I am assuming I just have to set up a new one?

P.S. I am away from home, will be back Tuesday so I am planning ahead.

Are they both in the same WorkGroup?

Right click on my computer and choose properties and look at the computer name tab. They need to have the same info in the workgroup. Once you do that, you should be able to see each computer from the other, I believe.

File and Folder Sharing Overview

To Share a Drive or Folder on the Network
Also, running the Network Setup Wizard on both computers is important, and make sure both computers are members of the same work group.
