Trying to fix friends comp...missing ethernet adaptor..? What can I do...

Ok, long story short...my friend busted his computer. He called me and after seeing the damage I knew I had to reinstall Xp Pro..so after doing that everything is up and running except his Quest DSL.. the CD never made it through the installation because it couldn't ping the ip.

So I caleld quest (before looking at the device manager) and realized that the network adaptor is working fine..but the ethernet controller is "?" So...I tried to find it on the Install CD, since I wasnt sure but I have no idea how to get that ethernet controller in..I would like to go back over there tomorrow and install it..

Thansk in advance....

find the computer brand and model, look them up at the compnay's site under driver download support section. get the ethernet driver from there. put that on a usb drive or cd.

I had that same problem when I was reinstalling windows a month or two ago. Try installing a hardware indentifying program like Everest. It'll show the brand and model number of the ethernet adapter.
