Ebay.com shows up as a porn site???

I typed in www.ebay.com & some kind of bondage supply site pops up, every time. I can get to Ebay through Google, but while I'm in Ebay, if I click on the Ebay logo in the top left corner, it takes me to the porn site. It even says www.ebay.com at the top of the porn site. Any clues on how to get rid of this shit?

Thanks,

~S2K

Check your hosts file. Depending on your operating system, it might be in c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc .

Open it in Notepad. If there's an entry for ebay.com, delete it. Report back here if there are other entries that you might want to delete.

If that's not the issue, you should mention which browser you're using, and the OS version.

Sorry about that...running XP Media/IE. I didn't see anything listed with ebay, and I did a search for ebay on my PC and got no results, including hidden files.

OK, hold on...in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, ebay was listed twice. I deleted it, but it's still doing it.

WOW, closed out IE and now it's back to norm (Ebay).

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

I recommend doing a full system scan for spyware, malware, etc... as the files responsible for editing your host file could still be sitting on your machine (as well as other nasties that were brought down at the same time).

I usually use AdAware and Spybot.

yep, the browser session was still using the settings from the old host file. When you reopened the browser it read the host file again without the hardcoded address and then relied on your DNS server to resolve ebay.com

That's a pretty nasty trick to play. Sucks you had to deal with it, but I'm glad you got it straightened out.
