Wireless network for basement - bridge or wap?

I just got myself an xbox 360. Trying to get it set up in the basement with wireless connection to my already existing network.

I've looked at 3rd party firmware updates for my linksys wrt54g router but not sure I really want or need to do that. Don't want to spend 100 bucks on a wireless adapter for the 360 either. Would be nice to have something for future devices.

Wondering if I can just do this.

PC -->(wired)--> WRT54G -->(wireless)--> WAP54G-->(wired)-->xbox 360

basically set up a wireless access point in the basement and hook the 360 into that. Or am I missing something here?

FWIW, I did the firmware update for a WRT54G to enable bridge-mode, and it worked fine. It still took some trial and error to get it connected, but it wasn't too bad.

bralph - was that the dd-wrt firmware v24 you updated with?

twikoff - thx for the suggestion. Did you go with the french version too?

I guess a little more info here too. I've been fighting with this system to get it sharing my internet connection wireless for a while now.

What I have that finally works is a linksys wrt54g hardwired to my desktop. The desktop has a usb modem from Verizon. Looks like dialup but is broadband. So used internet connection sharing. Set the router to 192.168.0.2 and the desktop to 192.168.0.1. Now my laptop with addy 192.168.0.5 can connect to the internet if I use 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and put in the dns server of the usb modem.

So if I get something like this usb gaming adapter I know what to change the ip address to. But not sure what the gateway address would be. Would it be the router ip or the desktop ip? Obviously can't leave it at the default. :)
