Setting up AT&T DSL: Easy?

I volunteered to set up AT&T DSL on my mother-in-law's computer.

Is the setup pretty straightforward, or there are any potential snags I should be aware of ahead of time?

thx!

Are they sending a home kit? If so, just follow the included directions and it's a piece of cake.

I set up AT&T DSL on my grandpa's computer a few months ago: no issues or snags.

Yes, they're sending out kit this week. Here's hoping it's snag free...

I just set up my parent's BellSouth (now owned by ATT) DSL a few weeks ago and it was 123 with the self-install kit they sent.

Yeah, pretty easy to set it up. They have CD that will guide you to hook up all computers in the house (if it's wireless).

If you know how to set up a network on your own, I would strongly suggest you don't use the included software. It's really weak.

I just did an install late this year for a friend in TN. I had to manually clean the registry to get rid of that crap software.

If you use the software to install it I would uninstall the software as soon as you are finished. I found the software so screwed up it wouldn't uninstall properly.

You can use IE to configure the modem, also the AT&T website will configure things without the software. You can call tech support.

Google 'install AT&T DSL without the software' and look around.

Agreed, the CD is weak. I don't know why they don't include this in the install info, but to set-up your service without a CD, go to http://144.160.11.35/register and follow the directions.
