Ques: Set top DVD Recorder, editing DVD content

I just recently used a SetTop DVD recorder (the ones that have a DVD+-RW and VCR built into one unit) to convert some old home video tapes onto DVDs. That was very easy and overall quality isn't all that bad.

Question: is it possible for me take the DVD content and use editing software such as Pinnacle Studio or Ulead, etc. to edit? I was able to copy the DVD content onto my computer's hard drive but wanted to see if I could now edit as there are several tapes that had all sorts of stuff on them.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can. But you'll probably have to convert the vobs to mpg or something and then reauthor because I don't think those editors have the ability to work directly on vobs. And the disc structure can get all messed up.

It would probably be better to edit on the recorder if possible.

Cool...I can give that a shot. The reason for not editing on the Recorder is that I had some tapes that spanned a few months and had a variety of things on them from a kids bday party to a recital, to a friend's kid's party, etc. It would just be easier to edit and also have special effects, etc. on a PC.
