UPC scanning with Infrared PDA port?

Is it possible to use an Infrared port on a PDA to record UPC info, say in conjunction with DVD profiler or some other program?

Nope. Irda ports are (were?) for sharing data back and forth between devices - say exchanging "virtual business cards" between PDAs or printing to an Irda printer from a laptop without having to connect to the network or carry a parallel cable around.

They require a transmitter and a receiver. UPC codes have neither. You need a full blown barcode scanner. Too bad Que Cats went away!

You could get an add on for your PDA that scans barcodes:

Or you could get an all in one unit:

Only $1,300 for the all in one. What a deal...
