Are you waiting in line for the iPhone?

I certainly am, and I'm planning my attack for the LA area. Whether to wait in line at a mall (Grove/Century City Westfield?) or outdoors (Santa Monica Promenade), the common difficulty around here is the parking all day, and whether I'll be able to bring a chair and goodies to keep myself occupied for the duration.

I'm thinking of playing tag team with my roommate (who also wants one) for food runs, running chairs back to car, etc. but concerned about stepping out of the line and losing place, even if one of us stays. What's normally the etiquette for that sort of thing?

I most certainly am not. Have fun with your new toy, though.

Nope. It's just the first in line of many devices that will do the same thing. No hurry, it doesn't do anything that I currently cannot do.

That's just me though. It'll probably be a cool toy for some.

I'm looking forward to how many murders, assaults, and robberies are attributed to this thing.

Personally, I'm holding out for the iKazoo.

Maybe I'll invent that. Walk around the office with headphones taped to a kazoo. Okay, maybe not.

Hmm.
Nope.
I do like my ipod but I'm not one of the igeneration, i have always gotten my phones free with contract renewal, and really don't need to spend 400$ or whatever on a phone/mp3 player.
More power to you though. If it sells out I'm sure there will be a few on ebay at a reasonable markup.

No

I will admit it is kinda neat, if they could bring it to market for $199 with a 2 year contract it wouldn't be too bad, but $500-$600 - no way

The iPhone goes on sale Friday, June 29, at 6:00 p.m. local time, for $499 (4GB model) and $599 (8GB), at AT&T and Apple retail stores. Apple's online store will also be selling the phone beginning Friday.

The monthly rate does not look too bad if you HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW.

The three unlimited data plans include 450 monthly call minutes for $59.99, 900 minutes for $79.99 and 1,350 minutes for $99.99. Each also comes with 200 SMS text messages, unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling and access to the iPhone's new Visual Voicemail, a feature that lets users select specific messages from a list rather than having to listen to each in turn. The two higher-priced monthly plans provide unlimited night and weekend minutes -- for AT&T, night hours start at 9:00 p.m. local time -- while the least expensive sports a 5,000-minute allowance.

I'll get one on ebay in a year for $5

This doesn't seem like the kind of thing that will sell out. It'll sell briskly - but I don't expect there to be a PS3, Wii type level of scarcity either.

$500/600 with two years of service is quite a bit to bite into, even if the cards are in your favor (you have the money, are inclined, aren't in a contract)

500 bucks *and* a twoyear contract? Ouch. The plan prices don't sound too bad, a little more than I'm paying for a shared plan, but I don't get text messages. It'd be tough dropping from my 60GB ipod to an 8G though.

Not until it costs under $50 and you can pay for only the time you use, like Virgin Mobile.

And since there's a service contract with it, we won't be seeing the scalping like there is with game consoles either.

I can't even get one in my area, so I'm in no danger of getting caught up in the frenzy.

Nope, don't care for it and I don't care enough about Apple products in general to get hyped up about it.

I know my roomate was talking about leaving work early for it though, but he's a big Apple guy.

Those plan prices dont include the data charges...those are just voice minutes

I was REALLY thinking about it, but then I realized that I would NEVER be able to pull it out on the subway or on ANY shady streets.

iPods are $200 and they get stolen like crazy, imagine this shit?

I don't quite get why people would actually wait on line for hours to buy a cell phone...but that's just me.

Not after reading some of the reviews on Engadget based on what the phone doesn't do.

The answer is NO. The reason is simple: Apple should have went with Verizon Wireless, which would have given the iPhone the ability to access EVDO broadband wireless networking (which would make the device actually usable).

Nope. Even if I used a cell phone I wouldn't pick up an iphone. It's a neat toy, but not something that interests me.

I just have a feeling that the iPhone is going to end up a big flop. At least this first generation.

Even if it is a pretty good gadget it cant nearly live up to the massive hype. That will be the downfall. I mean people act like it has a speed dial button to Jesus on it.

It costs way too much, not to mention all the other costs involved. Monthly costs, accessories, or also how much it costs to break whatever cell phone contract you have now to go get an iPhone.

Its only on one carrier. I personally think the iPhone is pretty cool sounding and it seems like it has a lot of features, but is it enough to get rid of the VCast EnV I got just a few months ago switch to a carrier Ive never used before? No, and I imagine Im not alone

Its supposed to be a phone and so much more...yet at the most it only has 5 GB. If its supposed to revolutionize gadgets and put everything all into one its going to need more memory.

So in conclusion. Anyone waiting in line for the iPhone please call me on your overpriced underperforming device in a few years when the better performing, cheaper, more storage capacity iPhone 2 comes out.
