We had a huge storm last night in Oregon. This morning I can't access Google's servers. Or Microsoft's. Yahoo seems to be working fine though. As well as DVDTalk (obviously).

CNN and NYTimes also appear not to be working...

I think I realized why...my ISP is in Beaverton. There's 200,000+ homes in the Beaverton-Hillsboro area that don't have power. The ISP may also be short on power. Though I wonder why I'm able to access any sites at all.

Their DNS server might be down. You might have some of the IP information cached on your computer.

Try going to 216.239.37.99.

If Google loads, it's your ISP's DNS server, as Palaver said.

Yeah, that works. As I thought - the ISP must be having server issues because of the blackouts...

Weird that I'm not having problems with Yahoo or DVDTalk though.

I'm having the same problem in the DC area with Google. No blackouts here, though. Weird.

Is there a direct access solution for Gmail similar to the one posted above for Google's main site?
