dvd sound sucks on laptop

My laptop has pretty loud speakers, but when I'm playing dvd's I have problems. This has happened on every DVD I've ever tried. The previews before the main video play at regular volume, but once I try to play the actual movie, the volume is very low. Even at full blast, I can barely hear what's going on. Anyone know what's up? I've tried Interactual Video Player and WMP.

This is probably best addressed in our new forum, Tech Talk.

look for a program called ac3filter. install it, then go to config, and boost up the volume from there.

Also, make sure that you check the audio settings from the DVD menu. It probably defaults to 5.1 and you should manually choose stereo. You only have two speakers.

Oh, what did I post it in? I thought I did post in Tech Talk

It was a problem with the 5.1 surround. Changing it to 2 did the trick. Thanks Sonic.
