Config new laptop, esp the battery

So Im a first time laptop owner and really user so this may seem a bit lame but I was wondering what you guys suggest on initial configuration ideas or what I can do NOW to increase the life of the battery.

Ive already read to discharge it completely a couple times after the first full charge. Is there anything that needs to/should be done in like the BOIS?

Thanks for the help!

I did a quick google search and found many sources that I believed to be reliable suggested that.

The discharge, full charge cycle is good maintenance every few months. It will help fix some minor battery issues...mainly with windows battery meter getting off track, not actually fix the battery itself.
This is especially important if you tend to keep the laptop plugged in and then after months of this go to batt power for extended time. The windows power meter is all out of sync and hibernating your unit when there is really almost half a battery left!
