Has it fixed the 'will not update because it's corrupt' problem? I've been using something else for a while now because it seems whenever I install it, it works for about two weeks then says the installation is corrupt whenever it tries to update.

I have not although I get a weekly reminder. Keep in mind that it's "virus free" but not free antivirus, costs something like $30 to download.

AVG is no longer offered as a free download for personal use?

Are you sure? I thought that too but I went to the site and I think there's a free version of 7.5 just like the 7.1 free version. I think the wording seems like it's no longer free.

As is the case with many of these programs that offer free versions, you really have to make sure you're downloading the true "free" version.

I updated to free 7.5 a while back, no problems. No issues with a upgrade bug either.

I put the free version of AVG on my new computer just within the past two weeks. No problems. Updates regularly. Scans regularly. All good in my eyes.

Maybe free only for first-time users? I was already on 7.1, and starting about a month ago they sent me a weekly reminder that it would end in January, and I'd have to upgrade to 7.5. When I clicked on that link, it offered only 2 choices: one basic for $30, and one advanced for more but I don't recall how much. I looked but didn't see anything free.

I'll check again later, but perhaps first-time users can get 7.5 for free, but 7.1 users have to pay to upgrade? Or maybe there is a free trial period, and mine is up?

It's not easy to find on AVG's site. I googled it. I guess you could also find it at CNet/download.com.

You do have to dig for the free version. I upgraded from the free 7.1 to the free 7.5 with no issues under Windows 2000.

Yup, running it on multiple computers around the house - just make sure you follow the instructions on the AVG site.

I finally got around to upgrading from 7.1 to 7.5. It is still free, but they sure hide the free download button well.

7.5 is free, though they definitely would not mind if you bought the pay version.
But I installed it a month or so ago, no problems.
I've been using AVG for at least five years.
