New DVD Burner Problems

Hi all,
Thursday night at Compusa I bought an external Memorex Double Layer DVD Burner.
When I installed the burner to my computer via USB cable Windows XP Pro recognized it and in explorer it said DVD-RAM (Drive L) and all was good. I burned a few discs of movies, a few of pictures and I was happy.

Today it is listed as CD Drive (still on drive L) and I am getting errors when I try to burn.

Nero (software came with the burner) has given me the error:
#25 CDR -600 File Writer.cpp, Line 311
Device not available
L: Memorex DVD+-RAM 510L v1

What is going on?

-Oh yeah if I click on it when it says CD Drive I get the error "L:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function"

When there is nothing in the drive explorer does in fact list it as DVD-RAM, it is only when I put in a DVD-R that it changes to CD Drive. And these are the same disks I have used the past couple of days.
