Do I have a faulty DVD Burner?

I purchased a laptop a month and a half ago. Today I started noticing that burns were not finishing (or more so, starting up). The burn begins, starts to write a lead-in and then does not start up. You can hear the burner trying to start, re-start and start again but then an Error screen pups up ("The files are ready to be written but the cd was ejected from the drive") from the CD/DVD Writer Wizard saying that the files would not burn. However, I then try a second burn and it works.

Any idea?

could have been a bad disc. try another brand. what burning program you are using? hopefully not the windows built-in one.
