Converting DVD video into an animated avatar?
I have a buddy who wants to convert a video clip from a DVD on to the computer as a .jpg or .gif so he can use it as a custom animated avatar., how would he go about doing this?

We're not able to talk about ripping commercial DVDs so I would suggest that he do multiple screencaps of the section he wants to turn into the gif. That way he's not circumventing the digital encryption of the DVD.

That's good then.
I suppose he could just use a DVD authoring program, like the one he used to create the DVD, to snip out the part he wants and then use a conversion program to create the gif. There are lots of conversion program out there, particularly ones that convert from avi to gif.
