Ok, I have an external HDD that I use to ONLY hold my music on. Basically, the top folder there are about 10 categories.
-> Rock
-> Rap
-> Punk

Anyways, under that I had folders calling each Artist, then under that I had folders with the Disc title

Example:
ROCK
-> Alice In Chains
-> -> Dirt
-> -> Sap

etc....

Anyways, I had some issues with my PC and I reloaded windows, and I believe I actually had my Music drive turned off.

So, I go to check it last night, and the ENTIRE folder structure changed.

It was like this now
ROCK -> Alice In Chains - Dirt
ROCK -> Alice In Chains - Sap

Basically, the subfolders all got moved up one level and actually renamed to older names. So, Dirt became Alice In Chains - Dirt.

I also have an UNSORTED folder, and most of my stuff went in there....which seems rather weird. It's like it knew where to go....sorta it again.

So, WHAT HAPPENED? I never saw this before....rather weird.

I scanned for Virus's, and nothing. I don't think I ever did a system restore....just weird

Did you let Itunes control any type of sorting?

Yes, it sounds like one of your music applications resorted the folders.

I never ran iTunes...I only used it once in the past for my brother, and the program is not on my PC anymore...that was months ago before I even got this HDD. I use Windows Media Player to play my music.

Any way to STOP this from happening? I really just want to leave it how it is....

Windows Media Player could also resort your folders.
