Which of these 4 blank DVD+R media brands is best?

They're all on sale this week for about the same price:

TDK
Fujifilm
Office Depot
Office Max

I've pretty much decided that it's between TDK and Fujifilm, but if someone tells me that the Office Depot or Office Max brand is the best then I might get one of those.

I'm using an NEC 3540A burner.

Thanks.

You can't get an answer to that question because it depends on what media is being used, not the brand.

For example, 8x Fuji from Japan is extremely good, 8x Fuji from Taiwan is average. Staples 8x +R is very good, Staples 16x +R sucks.

I had very bad results with an NEC burner and 16x TDK +R but TDK -R was acceptable.

If you know the speeds of the brands you could go to videohelp.com and read other people's reports on the specific media used in that brand. But you may need more info such as the country it was produced in.

I've had best results with Verbatim overall, regardless of where it was produced.

Go here and look up the EXACT media types, because as X said, they vary by type, not brand. This isn't a perfect guide by any means (people are more likely to complain when they get bad burns), but should give you a pretty good idea of the quality.

Thanks for the help. Yeah I pretty much figured quality depended upon the media. I'm looking at the 16x DVD+R media.

Here's a website I found while searching that gives some info regarding brand vs. media:

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

It's kinda tough to get the media id without buying a pack of disks so I have to go by other's opinions.

I'm currently leaning towards Fujifilm. I need to go see if they're manufactured in Japan since I've had good experiences with that. I've had good experiences with TDK CD-R media in the past, but I know DVDs are different and I haven't had any experience with TDK DVD media.

That's why I only buy Taiyo Yuden online from Meritline.com, Allmediaoutlet.com or Supermediastore.com. Eventually, one of them has it on sale and I never pay more than $25 for a spindle of 100, with free shipping and no sales tax.

Thanks, X. I think I'm going to go with those. I went to check out the Fujifilm and they're made in Taiwan instead of Japan like the last time I bought them. Thanks again for the link.

I also went with those.

I'm not sure you can find Fujis made in Japan anymore either.

Don't get the last two brands. Usually, store brands are always the worst and they get the price they do because the media are borderline rejects from the manufacturer or are made to very loose specs.
