Best newsgroup reader

I've recently been looking at stuff on Newsgroups. For the sake of argument let's call it porn. Whats a good all around reader. I've been using agent, but don't think it is anything special. Ideally I'd like a reader to DL the attatchments for messages I select without actually having to open the message and selecting to download a particular attatchment.

Was playing with agent and noticed I could select a lot of messages go to attachments and from there save them all. But in doing so I get a huge file in the agent folder (had 3 different .dats at 275Mb 479MB and 1.21GB). Needless to say I'm switching to xnews as we speak.

I also was looking at stuff on newsgroups. Two days of usage and this happened: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=476943

I don't know if it's just my bad luck, but I've always been completely on top of Windows security.

Just a word of warning.

I've been using Agent for years. The intermediate database does get large if you're DLing lots of files but once you purge the messages and compact databases, if necessary, they go away [usually only necessary if you keep the message in agent; if you download/save the attachment, then purge the message out of agent, you're fine.]
Maybe if you're dealing with lots of *really* huge downloads, Agent isn't the best; I think the most I've ever had to download at one time is 1.5 GB.
I guess I don't understand your comment, "I'd like a reader to DL the attatchments for messages I select without actually having to open the message and selecting to download a particular attatchment."
Do you mean you want it to DL the attachment from the server to your newsreader, or download/save it to your hard drive? Agent used to be able to do the latter, if you selected the message then chose 'save to hard drive', it would download the attachment then save it automatically; mine no longer does that, I don't know if it's a setting I've messed up. One thing it does do that I like, if a file is in multiple parts/messages, once you've downloaded all the parts, select all the messages, select 'Save all attachments', it will join them and save them in one shot.

If you use nzb's, you can't beat SABnzbd

Very simple, access it from your browser. It watches a folder for a nzb, when a new one is saved there, it downloads, PARs it, unpacks it, and you're good to go.

Same here, been using Newsbin Pro for years now for binary downloads and have been very happy with it. Easy to set up to connect to multiple servers and multiple connections. Between it and .nzb files, downloading is a breeze. I've tried a few other readers for binaries over the years, but always went back to Newsbin Pro. For text groups I use Agent.
