What kind of Tech. Gadget am I looking for?

Requirement: To input text via a keyboard while out of the house.

Im pretty sure I dont want a laptop since the battery life is always so limited and I dont NEED internet access, graphic capabilities, etc...

Is there a small handy device out there that has a keyboard and screen that can be used to input text and later transferred to a computer? Something that has a longer battery life than a laptop?

Maybe if you describe the overall problem a little better that'll help. What text are you entering, how much is there going to be, does it need to be portable or are you going to be stationary when entering it, etc etc etc...

I want to be able to write (nothing real fancy--just text) at say a library or coffee shop or wherever I go without an outlet. A laptop has such a limited battery life and are usually too expensive for just this task. Im not opposed to getting a laptop outright but Im just wondering what else is out there. I think I remember a little handy 'half laptop' being marketed awhile ago--what happend to that?
