Laptop Battery Life

Im about to get a new laptop in the next week or so and it seems everyone complains about them only having 2-4 hours worth of battery life. This isnt true is it?

I could get 4 hours of light-general use when mine was new (in april), with the optional larger battery. A bit less now. This is on core duo 2.0ghz dell.

My Dell Inspiron 6000 only have 2 hours worth of battery. But you can buy powerful battery that can run longer than 4 hours - but it cost $$$$.

Yea dude.. Laptops freakin SUCK for battery life.. I pretty much recycle my laptop here at work (in IT). I will take the new ones we order and then give out mine so I have a new one every couple months.. Each one has been the same.. About 1-4 hours.. It really is pathetic..

Depends on your power settings (screen brightness, wireless/bluetooth on, etc.), hardware and how CPU intensive what you're doing on it is. My Inspiron 9300 only gets about 1:15 minutes with standard power settings, but the 17" screen and Nvidia 6800 video card don't help too much in that department.

Hummm in my experience (Dell/IBM) 2-4 is is pretty good.

My first dell lappy (600m) is a wonderful machine. I could go right at four hours of wireless net surfing and right at 2 hours of dvd movie watching.

This is a lot longer then my work IBM, but in fairness the IBM is a subcompact and we only have the standard battery.

My newer Dell lappy (710m) goes about 3 hours of wireless net surfing and under 2 hours or a little less of DVD watching. I could get the bigger battery to increase that, but not sure I want the weight.
