Athlon X2 - should it show as 1 or 2 cpus?

I just upgraded my CPU to an Athlon X2 - when i bring up the task monitor, should that show as two CPU's? two lines etc?

It doesnt and it shows as 'unknown' cpu in a test program.. I was wondering if i need a bios upgrade or something (tried that last night, but it locked up my MB, so i had to clear the cmos)..

NF4 is the chipset

does your current BIOS support the X2 chips? upgrade it anyway. if everything is OK, it should show up as 2 CPU's in task manager

Yes, you will need a BIOS updated for DFI NF4 boards if it is more than I would say 6 months old. Look on the side of your mobo box or on the mobo it self. Is it a UT and/or SLI? There is no different between SLI-DR and just SLI, if I am not mistaken.

Download latest patches from AMD. Check your CPU's in the system device manager. You should see CPU 0 and CPU 1.

Its not a patch issue. It is a motherboard problem. He will need to flash his BIOS. It depends on when he purchased his DFI board. I bought my DFI LanParty SLI-DR about a year ago with a 3700+ Sandy and when I upgraded with an x2, I had to flash the bios because they didnt support dual core processors at the time.

I think I have to upgrade the BIOS, but when I did, it locked the computer. I had to motherboard-reset the cmos to get it back.

This is the one I downloaded from DFI (below). Since my board came with the front-x thing, I'm pretty sure its a Lanparty SLI-DR. How do I tell if it is a UT or not?

I really wish there was an easy way to tell the exact model of your board

Would it be printed ON the board?

the Winflash thing is a swing or a miss, do you have a floppy or can you get a hold of one? Best Buy usually has one for ten bucks or so.

I have a USB floppy but not sure if it can boot. At any rate, I actually did it again w/ winflash and this time i enabled a few options to clear the bios and other things, and it actually worked!! I have 2 cpu meters now and I assume more speed..

now for a graphics question, but I'll do a new thread for it ! Thanks all!!!
