Program to cut a snippet from a DVD and make a small video clip...do they exist?

Ok so I am helping my step-dad with his Myspace page for his band, and he has a DVD with about 15 mins of clips from their shows. I want to take the first few mins or so, and cut it out and upload the clip onto Myspace. So what is a good program that does this and is it difficult?

I am assuming this is in the right forum since it's tech related, but then again it does involve DVD's, so maybe it belongs in the DVD forum. Also, I am assuming that it's legal for me to ask this question since the DVD in question is owned by the band.

http://www.myspace.com/silentplanetband if you're curious about the page. His band is awesome, it's Celtic/Folk Rock. Feel free to check it out sometime.

You can use dvd shrink to cut out clips, although there is no fade in/out feature, it just start/stops.

your gonna have to use a program called flask mpeg. Your gonna have to convert that dvd to an avi. then use Adobe premiere to cut and add transitions

I guess I thought I'd add to this thread rather than create a new one, but I'm wondering if the above suggestions apply to what I want to do.

Forget about ripping the dvd, but let's say I have the movie file already downloaded and I want to upload a clip of it to youtube...what program would I use and how? I don't care about fancy transitions, or adding music or effects...just a clip from a movie.

Avidemux and VirtualDub are some free options.

MPEG Streamclip is what we use to do this at my job.

appreciate the help guys! After trying out all 3, I decided to go with Avidemux. It's been the most user friendly imo
