PC Gamers: Device that replaces needing mouse in FPS games?

I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for gaming input devices that replace needing a mouse for aiming in first-person shooters like Half Life 2.

Using a mouse for aiming in these games gives me carpel tunnel pains and I don't want to risk anything. I'm hoping there's a good alternative that still gives me the ease and abilities of a mouse, without the pain.

Recommendations?

I would guess maybe an XBOX 360 wired controller. Then maybe you could use the dual thumbsticks? There are drivers so you should just be able to plug in and go. I am not sure, but this is the best thing i could come up with.

I have one of the controllers, and I think it sucks for fps, but maybe its just me

I know a lot of people who use a trackball. I use the logitech wireless laser mouse.

I have a controller similar to the XBox 360 controller, but find it lacking for camera movement...

Has anyone used any joysticks on FPS's? There are some like the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro which intrigue me...

My buddy Kahuna used a joystick to play fps on pc for years, but I eventually got him to switch over to mouse. Therefore, it can be done and done well.

Well, after a bit of research, it looks like that Logitech Extreme 3D Pro may be the best joystick for FPS gaming. I grabbed one for $25.07 shipped at Amazon, which is great considering that my local Best Buy had it for $39.95. I'll let you know how it pans out...
