problems with OSX Tiger on my "new" Powerbook

Apple gurus, please help:

Fired up a used G4 Ti DVI I bought and I get the Tiger registration window. I start to enter my info and I can't get any further that name/address before it takes me back to the start. Like I'm stuck in Apple Groundhog Day Hell. I was told be seller that Tiger was loaded as a clone and they suspect this is the problem. They are sending install discs for panther but I really want to salvage the Tiger that's on it if possible.

I have install discs for my G5 desktop but they are labeled for a g5, will they not work?

Thanks in advance, pretty disppointing when i can't get past the startup screen

The G5 discs should work just fine. And there is no serial numbers or any licensing nonsene that would prohibit the two machines from sharing the same install discs.

Have you tried the disk utility program inside of the installation disk?

If you are booted up to the install disk go to Utilities on the top menu bar and then select Open/Run Disk Utility.

Do both 'Repair Disk Permissions' and 'Repair Disk'.

If that doesn't fix the question mark icon try running the Apple Hardware Test and see if it detects any errors with the mass storage.

Let me know if you don't know how to run the Apple Hardware Test.
