VOIP recommendations

Can any recommend a good VOIP provider? Is it possible to use your existing phones with VOIP?

i've been on sunrocket for a while now.

they had a short outage today (maybe 1 hour???)....we don't use the phone all that often.

i like paying $20 per month instead of the $48 we were paying.

voip is still emerging....there are pitfalls. if you're looking to save money and have your phone available for a % less reliability than a pots line then you'll be ok with any of the big-names.

if you need 100% reliability (such as for an alarm system or you don't have cell phones to fall back on), stick with pots.

seems like Vonage is the way to go based on what i have read.

This forum is always a wealth of information when i need help - so i'm going to make this offer here. I'm probably going to sign up with vonage, and they have a referral thing where you (the original client) gets like $50 worth of credit or something like that and i get my first month free.

First person to send me the referral link will get it.

I'm using Packet8 and have been extremely pleased. I have the ability to receive voice-mails via email (.wav attachments) and have calls forwarded to my cell phone if my home network goes down.

They are cheaper than Vonage and offer all the standard services (call waiting, conferencing, id, etc.)

We've had Vonage for 3 months or so with no problems.

Works great, great price.
