problems with my new external HD, please help me!

So I purchased an external HD today (Wester Digital Mybook) and installation went fine - plug and play (USB 2.0) and I backed up all my data from my faulty HD. I formatted the old hard drive and did a fresh install of Win XP, but now Windows refuses to recognize the external HD - it recognizes a "USB Device" but fails to install the drivers for it. I've tried this with two difffent internal HDs (both booting XP Pro) but get the same result.

Any ideas?

thank you!!!

I'll try that now. The weird thing is, the HD worked fine yesterday with one installation of Win XP (without SP2). Not sure what's going on, but I'll give SP2 a try.

HN - you are the MAN! I installed SP2 and it worked. Thank you so much! I still don't have a clue why it worked on one internal HD without SP2, but I don't care! Thanks again!

Pre SP1 Windows XP doesn't have proper USB2 support, that's why
