My computer has issues

My computer has been acting up lately. My desktop is going away leaving only my background screen picture showing and all of my icons gone. The only way that i can get them back is by using my task manager and going to system restore. Then my computer is slow and lagging. When i try to restore my computer to an earlier date it will not let me. Any suggestions?

Can you access the internet peacefully? It almost sounds reminiscent of the SpySherrif/W32.Sinnaka crap. Maybe spyware. Just scan with Adaware, spybot, Ewido Trojan scanner, and a good anti virus like nod32/kaspersky.

I tried this and it found nothing. I bought norton internet security and it would not install. every now and then i hear a comercial in the back ground and i cant close it or see it. I am considering buying a external hard drive and putting everything i want to keep on it then trying to restore my computer to day one. any help would come in handy.
