Adware question.

We've all seen them... the ads that pop up on websites that refer to the city we live in. It may be "find jobs in *city*" or "find a local girl in *city*. My question is, what are these ads scanning to know what city I'm in, in order to display the correct ad/text?

I have run adaware, spybot, hijackthis, AVG Virus Scanner, CWS Shredder, and everything else I can find to run, but the fact that these banners know where I live tell me that there is still some sort of information exchange happening. Does anyone know how to get rid of it?

Thanks in advance

They're probably just looking at your IP address. No adware/spyare needs to be on your computer for that.
