New hard drive partition as backup

So I just got a 200 gig hard drive installed and what I want to do is use a partition on it to automatically back up my digital pictures. What software would you guys reccomend?

Thanks!

Operating system?

Assuming it's XP, I recommend SyncToy.

No problem.

I guess it's time to ask what benefit backing up to a partition on the same physical drive would serve.

I do that on a computer that only has one drive. I'll backup the primary partition with Ghost and then copy off the backup to the network, external drive, or a DVD. It's also handy if you're travelling and trash your primary partition. Your backup is right there.

But if you're not copying it off the drive you're not very safe.

You can also use:
SyncBack Freeware V3.2.10

It's freeware. I use this software to periodically backup drives/folders. You can set it to automatically make backups every few hours/days/weeks/etc.

Alright I need to explain a bit. The primary drive that I am useing is an 80 gig drive that I bought when I built my computer nearly 4 years ago. I have all of my digital pictures from the past 5 years or so on that disk. I got a new 200 gig drive and what I want to do is back them up on one of the new partitions on this one in case the older drive fails. The way I see it is that I will probably not be filling the new drive up any time soon so I might as well use it as a backup as well as occasionally putting the pictures on dvds. Make sense or is this a waste of my time?

Thanks!

Makes perfect sense.

I was only thrown off because you had said, "...I want to do is use a partition on it..." which sort of implied it that partition Y was backing up partition X.

Cool, thanks for all the help guys. I actually went with syncback. I kind of liked the interface a bit better.

Thanks!
