changing windows languages

I bought an old computer off a friend to use as a music server, essentially, to my new Roku unit. Problem is, he's German and has a German version of windows 2000 installed. I thought it would be simple to change the language, but I'm having problems. I went into the regional and language settings in control panels and switched to English, or so I thought. When I mouse over the clock on the taskbar, it comes up in English. But all the menus and titles are still in German. I've never used win2000 before, so I'm kind of winging it with experience I have on my 98 and xp systems. There's gotta be a simple solution, no?

Well, the simple solution is to re-install an English version of W2k. I don't think there's a simple way of switching the whole system to another language - sorry.

Yeah, if I had an English version, I would. Buying a new version of windows would be about as much as I paid for the frickin computer. Silly me for assuming it would translate menus to English at the click of a button. Oh well.

actually, you can do it. ive done it before. go back to regional settings, there's a dropbox under location for menus and dialogs. if you change that to english, and relogin, it should work.
