USB question

Sorry if this has been asked before.

I recently got a new 'puter because my old one crashed and didn't recover well. However, the old one still has hundreds of digital pictures and music that I want to transfer. Is there a USB cable that can connect to hard drives and do it? Or do I need to burn them to disc or a flash drive?

You could try one of those external HDD enclosure kits. Just take the drive out of the old PC and install it in the enclosure. Plug into the new PC, it should automatically recognize and assign a drive letter. Copy needed files to new PC, then format old drive and use as a nice external HDD.
