Question for XM Roady2 users

I just bought my first XM receiver, a Roady2, and was curious about whether you actually need the home adapter kit to use this at home. I obviously have all the car stuff from when I bought it this morning, but I was wondering if I bought just a 6V AC/DC power adapter would it still work inside with the antennae for car usage? Not really sure I want to splurge for the home adapter kit because I would likely only use it ocassionally inside, but would be nice to have that option now and then. So has anybody tried just using a power adapter and got it to work indoors?
