a wireless networking question...

I just setup my desktop for wireless networking(tying into my wireless for my laptop and xbox360). I have also enabled file sharing between the desktop and my laptop. I want to make it where I can view basically of all my desktop via the laptop but the only thing that can be accessed from the desktop from my laptop is my shared folder. I want to be able to use the desktops printer as well. I don't want anything to access my laptop though. I want to make my laptop as secure as possible so only I can access anything important on it. is there anything else I should do to make it as secure as possible? I'm very very new to this so any help would be great. thanks.

desktop is running XP SP2 fully patched and my laptop is running XP Pro SP2 fully patched. I am using windows firewall on both pcs as well.

EDIT: I thought I should add that right now my laptop is directly wired to the router(Linksys WRT54GS) since I need to upgrade my network card. my current built in one only supported WEP and I'm using WPA.
